CROOKED KINGDOM, FATE: THE WINX SAGA, BTS – MY JANUARY 2021 WRAP-UP

how should i describe my january? well, it was a start, literally. a brand new year, marking a brand new creative journey. to summarize the said journey, i read three books and watched three films. wishing a better february for all of us! for now, here’s how last month went:

ON BOOKS

this year, my goal is 30 books. bought a lot of kindle editions lately, affordable prices, so i’m really hoping i will reach my goal before december.

CROOKED KINGDOM (SIX OF CROWS #2) BY LEIGH BARDUGO

started this one on the last week of december, but finished it on the first week of january. like i expected, i loved this book with all my being. leigh bardugo is an author you should watch out for. and i don’t know if this an unpopular opinion or not, but i highly recommend that you should read the shadow and bone trilogy first before the six of crows duology. that nostalgic feeling you’ll feel when you get reunited with characters from the trilogy to this duology is super worth it! see my reveiw

PLAYING WITH FIRE BY APRIL HENRY

oh, this one was an unexpected favorite! like, for real! i highly recommend this book about survival and bravery. although, i have to warn you, some parts of this book might be triggering (death of a family member, fire-related accidents, etc.). see my review

MISTER BRIDESMAID BY IVY OLIVER

i was looking for a tropey book to read and found this on kindle. this book is the first one in the Mister Romance story collection by Ivy Oliver. just an average romantic story. not that unforgettable, but i still enjoyed.

synopsis: I haven’t seen him in six years… now we’re married.

When my best friend asked me to serve as her Man of Honor, of course I said yes. A trip to Vegas for the week before her wedding and then on to the Florida Keys for the nuptials was an added bonus. The icing on the cake was her brother, Colt.

I didn’t expect anything to happen. He’s almost ten years older, aloof, mysterious, and devastatingly handsome. All the time I spent fantasizing about his powerful muscles, piercing eyes, hungry mouth, and grasping hands leave me tongue-tied and stammering every time I see him. I can’t hold a conversation with him without picturing my hands running down his taut stomach to that perfect muscular V to grab at his belt buckle.

Then one night the music was pulsing, the beat was pounding, and the next thing I know I’m in bed with my dream crush for a wild night of consequence-free pleasure… Almost. There’s just that little problem of a drunken ceremony at an all-night wedding chapel just off the Strip and what happens after we say “I do”…

ON FILMS

MY HERO ACADEMIA SEASON 1

i actually watched seasons 1 to 3 of this anime, but that was years ago and my brain forgot most of what happened. thus, a re-watch is a must! nothing changed, i still loved it! although the ‘power of friendship’ is a recurring theme in anime, i’m never tired of it.

the show is about a boy, who wants to attend the most prestigious superhero school in the country, even though he has no superpowers.

WISH YOU: YOUR MELODY FROM MY HEART

so South Korea’s getting into the BL universe and i love that! to all BL lovers: we are winning! the story revolves around two guys, both adept in the art of music. it’s about their journey, as they navigate through life, while battling their own demons.

the plot was quiet simple, yet the characters made the whole movie extraordinary. i could tell the people behind this film did their very best. i’m looking forward for more South Korean BLs, so i hope they will give us the greatest!

FATE: THE WINX SAGA

surprisingly, i finished this show in one night. and you know what kept me going? the charms of danny griffin. as for the show itself, a watered-down version of the animated series. the special effects? it looked like they ran out of budget. bloom’s transformation? meh, didn’t feel anything as i watched.

i have to admit, there were parts that intrigued me. the ending was kind of a cliffhanger, and i love cliffhangers. will i watch the second season, if ever renewed by Netflix? yes.
